Christmas begins at Swanage Station.

Step into a world of twinkling lights, festive cheer and timeless Christmas traditions. Father Christmas's Yuletide Express is more than a train ride – it's a heartwarming journey into the magic of the season.

What to expect

Your festive adventure begins at Swanage Station, beautifully dressed for Christmas. Before you board, soak up the festive atmosphere, step inside our giant snow globe for the perfect Christmas photo, and treat yourself to a selection of seasonal refreshments available to purchase from the station.

All aboard! Settle into your seat for a one-hour return journey through the stunning Purbeck countryside, where festive spirit and winter scenery go hand in hand.

Be greeted by our Magic Ticket Collector, who'll make sure your family is ready for the enchantment ahead.

Meet our cheerful Christmas Elves as they spread festive joy throughout the journey.

Then comes the moment everyone has been waiting for, as Father Christmas makes his way through the train to meet each family.

A few festive surprises await...

  • A special Christmas gift for every child to treasure
  • A traditional candy cane for everyone on board
  • Chocolate coins for everyone to enjoy

Children can also visit the Christmas Wishing Tree to write and hang up their festive wishes – a magical way to share their hopes for the season.

Departure details

All services depart from Swanage Station (local council pay and display parking at BH19 1PW). Please arrive at least 30 minutes before departure to enjoy the festive atmosphere, admire the Christmas decorations, step inside our giant snow globe for a memorable photo, and purchase seasonal refreshments before boarding.

 

Dress for the Occasion

We love seeing our passengers wrapped up in Christmas jumpers, festive pyjamas and woolly hats. Who knows – our Elves might just reward the best-dressed travellers with a little something extra...

Carer Tickets

Disabled passengers may bring one carer free of charge. carer tickets can be booked online and Id must be shwon when collecting your tickets.

Terms and Conditions

  • All bookings are final, no refunds are available.
  • One wheelchair space is available per train.
  • Carer discount is available on this service, see above.
  • Discounts are not available on this service.
  • We reserve the right for operational reasons to move your booked seats.
  • Prams and pushchairs cannot be conveyed on Father Christmas trains.
  • Assistance dogs are permitted on trains. Other dogs may be present on platforms. If someone in your party is nervous around dogs, contact [email protected] before your visit.
  • If you wish to sit near another family, please make one booking to cover all seats.
  • Alcohol may only be consumed if purchased from Swanage Railway bars or outlets. Bringing your own alcohol is not permitted.
  • Please treat staff, volunteers, and fellow passengers with courtesy and respect. Swanage Railway may refuse entry or travel to anyone whose behaviour causes concern.
  • Please be considerate of our heritage, community, and neighbours during your visit.
