Swanage Railway is an ideal destination for your next group visit and our friendly team can easily accommodate pre-booked groups of any size up to arround 120 persons on our full size trains. We can transport your party back in time during a memorable 6 mile journey through the beautiful Purbeck countryside.
Most of our trains are hauled by steam engines and link together a range of stations offering a wide variety of options to suit all ages and tastes. Swanage Railway is easily accessible from the main A351 Wareham-Swanage road, with brown tourism signs directing you Purbeck Park and our adjacent station at Norden. This provides ample coach and car parking with adjoining modern toilets and children’s play area.
Coach drivers may wish to seek refreshments at our platform cafe here or having dropped off your guests, progress empty to Swanage where there is coach drop off/pick up point adjacent to our railway station and nearby long-stay parking. Coach drivers are provided with vouchers for free travel and free Tea/Coffee.
For pre-booked parties of 15 people or more we offer special group travel discounts and will reserve adjacent seats on the train. This ensures hassle-free travel as all your party can sit together and enjoying the nostalga of bygone travel. At Norden we have an extensive ball clay mining museum which your party may browse while waiting for the train. This is included free as part of your visit (check opening dates/times). Once settled in the specially reserved seats, your train passes through iconic Corfe Castle Station, It is located in the heart of this much photographed village, which offers the National Trust owned castle and tea rooms with other attractions including a model village, souvenir shops and local catering outlets.
Groups can travel to the unspoilt Victorian seaside town of Swanage which offers a Blue Flag winning beach, access to the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Jurassic Coast”, safe bathing waters and delightfull promenade. While at the station parties can pick up a memento of their visit or a treat for loved ones in our extensive Gift Shop. Swanage station cafe and picnic area at the station is directly adjacent to the Coach Pick Up Point in Gilbert Road. This makes an ideal collection and waiting point as your guests prepare for the return journey by coach or train.
School Parties are welcomed, and further details are available from the contact details below. Teachers planning plan a visit to the railway are advised to apply in writing for a pair of FREE travel tickets (valid on non-special event days) to help them plan the visit and undertake risk assessments. Other Group Organisers can take advantage of a FREE ticket to come and visit the railway to help plan a group visit.

GROUP TRAVEL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Group bookings should be made well in advance of your requested travel date as some of our services are very popular and seating may not be available.
To qualify for group rates, a minimum number of 15 fare-paying passengers is required.
Please book for the maximum expected number of passengers so that seating can be preliminarily reserved, and inform us of the final passenger count no later than 14 days prior to the date of travel.
When social distancing rules apply, we need to know by the same deadline which of your Group are able to travel as family units or “bubbles”.
It will be your responsibility to ensure that seating allocated on the basis of that information is occupied by Group members in compliance with applicable social distancing rules. If your If the number finally travelling is less than the minimum, they can still do so but the fare payable will be that for twenty travelling passengers.
After your booking has been made you will receive a letter of confirmation; please ensure that all information, including departure stations, dates and times are correct. Any errors or omissions must be brought to our attention as soon as possible to avoid your group’s disappointment.
A non-refundable deposit of £30 of the total cost is required upon receipt of the confirmation letter unless otherwise stated. Cheques should be made payable to Swanage Railway Co. Ltd. or payment can be made by all major credit and debit cards, excluding American Express.
Cancellations can only be made in writing or by email at least seven days prior to your date of travel.
On your scheduled travel day please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the departure time to allow sufficient time to check-in and board. If you miss your booked train time the Swanage Railway cannot guarantee that your group will be able to travel. If you are arriving by coach please ensure that your coach driver is made fully aware of nearby set-down and pickup points.
