Community Weekend

Join us on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th March 2027 for our much-loved Community Weekend  a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes and discover what it really takes to keep a heritage railway running.

Across the weekend, we’ll be opening doors that are normally closed to visitors, giving you the chance to meet the people who make Swanage Railway happen and explore parts of the railway you don’t usually get to see.

Get closer to the action with a range of bookable, hands-on experiences, including Guard, Diesel Driver, Signal Box and TTI sessions, alongside activities at the Purbeck Mining Museum.

There’s plenty to discover even without booking an experience. Explore our demonstration Signal Box and Museum at Corfe Castle, visit the Purbeck Mining Museum, discover how our railway communications and signalling systems work, and enjoy travel behind both steam and diesel traction.

Whether you’re a lifelong railway enthusiast, interested in volunteering, or simply curious about what happens behind the scenes, Community Weekend is your chance to discover a different side of Swanage Railway.
