"Further to the latest COVID-19 announcement by the Government, we have again reviewed the most recent information, including the additional areas which will unfortunately be moving into higher tiers.

The whole of Dorset remains in Tier 2 and our operating procedures continue to be fully compliant with the Government’s regulations for Tier 2 areas. This means we can still run our trains. However, the expanded restrictions limit the ability of some of our staff and volunteers to be able to travel to the railway. This unfortunately means we are longer able to resource our daytime ‘Plum’ timetable between 27th December – 2nd January and have therefore had to cancel these services.

Steam & Lights trains remain unaffected at this time. If you reside in a Tier 3 and 4 area, then re-bookings or refunds are available as customers are not allowed to travel under the current restrictions. We will also refund or rebook tickets for customers who live in Tier 2 areas, if requested. If you live in a Tier 2 area and are planning on visiting the Railway, please ensure your party is fit to travel.

26/11/2020 UPDATE

Following the announcement from the Government that Dorset Council and the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council areas will be placed in Tier Two from Wednesday, 2 December, 2020, the Swanage Railway can confirm that its Steam and Lights as well as its Christmas Luncheon train services - scheduled to operate from Saturday, 5 December, 2020 - will operate as planned.

Our train services will continue to comply with the guidelines laid out by the Government and conform with our ‘We’re Good to Go” accreditation from Visit Britain.

Will the railway still be running train services under Tier Two restrictions?

Yes, the railway will operating its planned services, including Steam and Lights, Christmas Luncheon train services.

The Government restrictions for Tier Two state:

  • Businesses and venues can continue to operate, in a COVID-Secure manner, other than those which remain closed by law, such as nightclubs.
If we live in separate households can we still travel?

The Government restrictions for Tier Two state:

  • You must not socialise with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place.

If we live in a Tier Three area, can we still visit the railway?

The Government restrictions for Tier Three state:

  • Avoid travelling to other parts of the UK, including for overnight stays other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities

If we live in a Tier Two area and do not want to travel, will I get a refund?

Our terms and conditions (below) state, tickets are non-refundable, but under these circumstances we will issue you a gift card to the value of your booking.

  • Practicing Social Distancing.
  • Perspex Screens at till points.
  • Card only Payments (No cash).
  • Face Coverings in line with government guidelines.
  • Hand sanatizer at station entrances.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Toilets are only available at Swanage station and Norden Car Park (Dorset Council).
  • There are no toilets on the trains.
  • Our catering facilities remain closed until further notice.
  • Passengers are requested to take rubbish home.

ADDITIONAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS RELATING TO COVID-19
  • In accordance with current government regulations, all passengers on our trains are required to use face coverings that cover nose and mouth. The Swanage Railway may refuse carriage to those who do not comply with this regulation.
    Please note that the regulation does not apply to children under the age of 11, to railway staff in the course of their duties and in certain other situations
  • All bookings are final, no changes or alterations
  • Tickets are non-refundable.
  • Passengers who exhibit symptoms of Covid-19 or who have been in contact with someone who has, MUST NOT attend the railway.
  • Is it a requirement that you must visit the railway not have knowingly been in contact with someone with the virus for 14 days.
