Wareham Timetable and Fares

Swanage <> Wareham Seasonal Diesel Service Summer 2017


You can pay on the day or book in advance (click on the buttons above).

Enabling visitors from London – and stations across the country – to visit Swanage and Corfe Castle by train whilst also allowing tourists in campsites around Wareham to visit Corfe Castle and Swanage by rail.

Dates of Operation:

Tuesday 13th June to Sunday 3rd September 2017.

Swanage - Corfe Castle - Norden -Wareham (not Harman's Cross & Herston Halt)

Wareham trains will not be calling at Herston Halt or Harman's Cross.

Passengers wishing to board / alight at Herston Halt or Harmans Cross take the steam service and change at Corfe Castle as shown below.

 A download version is on the home page of this website, paper copies will be available towards the end of the month from Swanage Railway Booking Offices and Tourist Information Centres.

Passengers can use the steam service to / from Norden and use the diesel service between Norden and Wareham Please note any seat reservation is for the diesel service only.

The journey takes 45 minutes approximately

The journey is 10 miles approximately

South West Trains operate a twice hourly service from Wareham. The trains are timed to connect but the connection is not guaranteed. www.southwesttrains.co.uk

Please note the return is a day return. 

Passengers who wish to travel one day and return on another day will have to buy two singles.

National Railcards (e.g. Senior Citizens / Young Persons) are not accepted

Holders of a Swanage Railway Local Residents* Discount Card get 33% off.

The card costs £15, is valid for 12months from the date of issue. They can only be purchased in person from the Swanage Railway Booking Office at Swanage. An electronic photo of the card holder will be taken. Proof of residency (PDC Council Tax Bill) is required.

*A local resident is a resident in the Purbeck District Council Tax Area.

Through fares from London / Weymouth / Bournemouth / Poole are planned to be introduced in 2018..

Booking Tickets:

You can turn up on the day and pay at the booking office (cash or card) or on the train if the booking office is closed (cash only).

Swanage Railway Booking Offices are located at Swanage, Corfe Castle and Norden.

A temporary Swanage Railway ticket office will be open at Wareham on the station forecourt on days the Wareham service is operating. It will not be open on other days.

Tickets cannot be purchased from the South West Trains Ticket Office or Ticket Vending Machines at Wareham.

Conditions of Carriage:

National Conditions of Carriage do not apply.

In national ticketing terms these are charter train tickets with Swanage Railway as the promoter, WCRC as the operator.

Operations and Rolling Stock

West Coast Railways (one of Britain’s foremost charter operators) is operating the service (as the operator) on behalf of Swanage Railway (as the promoter).

Class 33 / 37 diesel locomotives (33012 33025 and 37518) are hauling a London Underground 4TC Unit.

The locos are  top and tail with 2 of the 3 being used on any one day.

The Heritage DMUs will be delivered back to the Swanage Railway late Summer 2017.

A steam service between Swanage and Wareham is a long term aspiration.

Onboard Faciltiies

Toilets (not disabled accessible) on the train.

Wheelchairs, :Pushchairs and Bicycles can be carried in the Guards Van (Coach C). Space is limited.
