A4 Pacific No. 4492 'Dominion of New Zealand' -
a large historic 1930s express steam locomotive which escaped the cutting torch in
1966 and due to star in the Swanage Railway's Grand Steam Gala - has been spotted passing through Wareham on the main line north of Swanage
today, Tuesday 30th August 2011.
The Swanage Railway's official photographer & press officer Andrew P.M. Wright has
supplied a series of photos taken at Wareham on the main line showing No. 4492 'Dominion of New Zealand' passing
through Wareham - where it made a brief stop - en route from London Victoria to
Weymouth with the summer Tuesdays-only Dorset Coast Express..
The locomotive is due to arrive at Swanage later this week in readiness for the Gala
9th-11th September.

Appearances can be deceptive because 'Dominion of New Zealand' is - under the nameplate, the number
and the LNER blue livery -
actually Gresley A4 pacific No. 60019 'Bittern' which has been hauling rail tours around the
country this year and is set to carry the
disguise for three years.
