The Swanage Railway has embarked on a winter track re-laying project this winter, working through to early February.
The work is centred on the section between Victoria Avenue Road Bridge and Herston Halt.
The work required the delivery of 1000 tons of fresh ballast from Merehead via the main line connection at Wareham, and
Swanage Railway supporter and volunteer
Brian Lienard has supplied several photos showing the ballast and progress on 28th January 2010 as the work approaches completion.

by the Swanage Railway's Permanent Way Team, and is now complete ready for the start of the Swanage Railway 2010 services on 13th February,
and there are several photo reports on progress which can be seen via our news index page
