The Swanage Railway has embarked on a winter track re-laying project this winter, working through to early February. The work is centred on the section between Victoria Avenue Road Bridge and Herston Halt. Swanage Railway supporter and volunteer Peter Milford has supplied several photos of a through working from the main line to the Swanage branch today, 21st January 2010.

Diesel locomotive No. 66031 working the 6Z50 from Eastleigh to Swanage with a rake of stone wagons with ballast from Merehead running through Sway on Thursday 21st January 2010.

6Z50 conveyed a through working of a rake of stone wagons with ballast from Merehead for the relaying of a section of Swanage Railway tracks between Herston and Victoria Road bridge. The work is being carried out during the winter shutdown period by the Swanage Railway's Permanent Way Team. Work is progressing well, and there are several photo reports on progress which can be seen via our news index page here.

If you are in Swanage and you would like to try your hand at track laying, pop down to the site and help out - the Permanent Way Team led by Barry Light is looking for volunteers! (As it is a construction site, hi-vis clothing, safety boots and hard hats are mandatory on site, so remember to bring with you your full safety equipment including hard hats, steel toed boots, gloves etc).
