Swanage Railway supporter and volunteer Peter Milford has supplied 3 photos showing ex-BR locomotive Standard Class 4 No. 80104 on the last day of Swanage Railway services before the annual shutdown period.

Peter writes:

80104 has been the service loco for the Christmas and New Year 'Blue' timetable trains, and the photos show the loco and its train - the 13:50 service from Swanage to Norden - crossing the Studland Road viaduct and approaching Castle View crossing.

The Swanage Railway's annual shutdown allows the opportunity for 'heavy' maintenance on the railway, and this year will include tracklaying at Herston and the provision of a new 'down starter' signal at Harmans Cross so that six coach trains can be accommodated at some time in the future.

After running around at Norden, driver Steve Dyer watches the road towards Corfe Castle with the returning 14:30 service to Swanage via Corfe Castle and Harman's Cross. After this journey there were just two remaining round trips before the closedown.

Swanage Railway services will return on 13th February 2010 with our Half-Term Family Fun Week.
