Corfe Castle
signalman Paul Clements completes his log after the departure of DMU No W55028 on 23rd July 2009.
The diesel locomotive had initially arrived at Swanage in March 2009 and entered service very briefly before being
moved to Ramparts at Derby for overhaul and repainting into BR green. Recently used for driver route training by
South West Trains until purchased for use on the Swanage Railway, the DMU is now in regular service at Swanage.
Corfe Castle's current signal box in the old porter's lodge on the
up platform of the station will be replaced by the new 'Victorian' signal box
on the down platform which is now rapidly taking shape thanks to the efforts of Swanage Railway volunteers.
The driver of the DMU was long-time Swanage Railway volunteer Pete Duncalfe who started at
Swanage in 1978 when he was 16 years old. The second man was fireman Dave Reeves and the guard was George Rashbrook.
The signalman at Corfe Castle was Paul Clements.
Andrew's photos also show the
'Bubble Car' DMU passing the Wessex Belle Bistro dining train hauled by Crompton diesel No. 33 111
at Corfe Castle.
