SWANAGE RAILWAY LOCOMOTIVES PREPARED FOR VISIT TO EASTLEIGH 100 ON THURSDAY 21st MAY 2009

Swanage Railway supporter Peter Milford has supplied several photos showing Swanage Railway staff and volunteers hard at work at Swanage on the evening of Thursday 21st May preparing locomotives for display and work at the Eastleigh 100 Centenary Open Weekend celebrations.

The Drummond M7 No. 30053 emerged from the Goods Shed with a new coat of paint and new SOUTHERN logo - and will be working the brake van rides at Eastleigh.

Bulleid Pacifics No. 34028 Eddystone and 34070 Manston were scrubbed and polished - and with the prospect of a night shoot the steam generators were on and the lights tested!

The convoy of locos will leave Swanage after the 09.50 service train on Friday morning, working through Bournemouth to Eastleigh to arrive early afternoon.

Swanage Railway supporters and enthusiasts will be pleased to learn that as part of the Eastleigh 100 Centenary Open Weekend event commemorating 100 years of the Eastleigh locomotive works, 23-25 May 2009, there is planned to be an ITV Meridian live news report at about 1800hrs on Friday 22nd May followed by BBC South Today live report at 1830hrs.

The Swanage Railway will be in attendance at the event with locomotives and staff, and ITV will be filming on the footplate of one of our Bulleid locomotives, and plans include a demonstration move for the cameras.

The BBC report is planned to include film of No. 850 Lord Nelson with a Swanage Railway locomotive in the background.
