Andrew P.M. Wright has supplied over 370 photos as a report chronicling the historic occasion on 1st April 2009 when the first through service since 1972 visited Swanage.

At 8.45am on Wednesday April 1st 2009, under clear blue skies, a twelve-car special - 'The Purbeck Pioneer' hauled by a DB Schenker Class 66 locomotive No 66152 - departed from London Victoria on schedule and travelled via Leatherhead, Effingham, the Pompey Direct line, Southampton, Bournemouth, Wareham, Worgret Junction and down to Corfe Castle and Swanage.

Due to the popularity of the service, it was repeated on 2nd April 2009 with the same configuration.

Due to the number of Andrew's photos, we have grouped them broadly by stages of the journey as follows:

London Victoria departure
Wareham
Motala
Corfe Castle
Swanage arrival
Swanage speeches
Swanage departure
Worgret return
London Waterloo
