GWR Taffy Tank No. 6695 nears completion of its rebuild in Herston Works
On behalf of the 6695 Group, John Webb writes:
The Group urgently requires £7,500 to complete the rebuild of
locomotive No 6695, for use on the Swanage Railway.
As you can see from the photographs on the dedicated photo report page in the Swanage Railway News
section the boiler overhaul is well advanced, with motion completed. (Please click here to go directly to the page)
A steam test is due about the end of February 2005. We require the extra
funding to purchase the 1/2 rocking fire grate (£2,700) and to cover
the cost of riveting in the tube plate along with the Smoke box to the
Boiler, Cranage and Transport. These photos show Pete Pickering working on the boiler and smokebox door.
Why not support this exciting venture by making a donation,
sponsoring a tube or becoming a shareholder in this locomotive?
Easy term payments from as little as £5 a month will give you part
ownership of 6695, a full share costing £250.
Public support has enabled the Group to totally rebuild this
locomotive from ex-Barry Scrapyard condition in 9 years. This Locomotive will
enter traffic in 2005, thus helping to relieve the pressures on other
Swanage Railway locomotives. Your assistance at this time is very much
appreciated and we look forward to welcoming you to Swanage to see a
fully lined-out green liveried locomotive as carried on withdrawal from British Railways in 1964.
