John Rowley has sent us these photographs of West Country Class 34028 Eddystone leaving Herston Works on the
Swanage Railway on Monday 29th September.
As the works are not currently connected to the railway line itself all movements are undertaken by road,
with transfers to and from the Swanage Railway taking place at Norden. John's photos show Eddystone resplendent in
its new green paintwork as it is manoeuvred past the overhanging branches - as
can be seen from the extra greenery the locomotive has picked up along the way!
The restoration of Eddystone was originally started at Sellinge but moved to Swanage in
November 1999. Steady progress has been made since then thanks to the efforts of the dedicated teams of volunteers, culminating in the passing of the steam test
on 24th July. To see photos of this milestone event please click here.
