What are the Swanage Railway Trust's aims?

  • The restoration of the rail link between Swanage and Wareham and the re-establishment of a daily service to connect with main line trains.
  • The creation of a comprehensive historical record of steam railways and steam technology in Southern England.

    What are the benefits of membership?

  • Annual membership entitles the member to 25% discount off fare prices on all scheduled Swanage Railway Co Ltd trains travelled on during the course of their membership year. (see note 1 below)
  • 10% discount on most items in the Swanage Station shop.
  • Regular magazine, Swanage Railway Magazine mailed free of charge to members. Please see the cover photo of one of our issues below right. The magazine is mailed to members three times per year and contains numerous illustrated articles on behind-the-scenes activities around the Swanage Railway.
  • The opportunity to vote at the Annual General Meeting and to stand for election to the Council of Management and thereby participate in the future of the Railway project. (This applies to members over 18 years only)
  • The opportunity to become a working member of the Swanage Railway.

    With effect from 1st January 2012 annual Swanage Railway Trust subscription rates are as follows:

    Adult £21
    Junior (under 18) £12
    Family membership (2 adults & up to 3 children under 18) £42

    * The senior membership category will no longer be available to new members with effect from 1st January 2012. However, it will remain in place for existing senior members at £15.

    The junior membership (5 to 18 years of age) annual subscription rate is unaltered at £12.00

    Premier Life Membership (PLM) remains closed to new joiners.

    Overseas members

    Overseas members are asked to pay a supplement to cover the net additional cost of mailing their quarterly magazine abroad. Please e-mail membership department at membership@swanagerailwaytrust.org.uk for details, as these can vary according to country.

    Why not become a working member?

    The Swanage Railway thrives as a busy seaside railway and relies on its mostly volunteer workforce to enable it to operate one of the most intensive Private Railway services in Britain.

    You can become a part of this by becoming a working member. Volunteers are welcome in all departments no matter what your commitment can be. Junior members can join our Sygnets Youth Group.

    Please contact our Volunteer Liaison Representative who will introduce you to the railway and find a suitable starting point for your career.

    1 - Excluding Santa Specials & Wessex Belle services. Also excludes any future operating beyond Norden Station towards the main line services/stations which may be operated at any arm of the railway.
    2 - Membership applicants who wish to make immediate use of concessions should ask for an instant membership form at the Booking Office.
    3 - Please allow 28 days for the processing of your application as the membership department is one of the many volunteer areas of the Swanage Railway.
