THE MERCURY GROUP WORKING WEEKENDSA Mercury Group initiative that has been considered for some time is the introduction of regular working weekends at Swanage. There is a possibility that these may well develop in line with a parallel move within the Railway’s Infrastructure Group, with the Group holding a social evening after the Apr and Sep working days. The Infrastructure Group at Swanage Railway comprises of the five engineering departments, namely Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Permanent Way (track), Signal & Telegraph and Telecom, together with the five Station Managers and their respective teams. Within their scope of work there is a huge list of tasks to be completed, some of which could be completed by small teams of highly motivated, well led volunteers. The completion of these tasks would result in the relief of pressure on the hard-pressed staff at the Railway and a more proactive approach to task management as a whole. It is therefore proposed to form the Infrastructure Support Group (ISG) during 2005. The ISG will meet regularly to clear a backlog of general tasks, as submitted by the Infrastructure managers. On days when the ISG meet the proposed schedule is as follows:
All Personnel should arrive with suitable clothing including boots and hi-vis clothing ready for the H&S briefing The current proposal is that the ISG could meet on the third Saturday of each month in 2005:
