THE MERCURY GROUP ANNUAL REUNION 2005Group Annual Reunion The 2005 Mercury Group Annual Reunion will be held slightly later than in previous years so that it coincides with The Liberty of Swanage Parade. The Liberty is being granted to 11 Sig Regt on Sat 09th Jul 05 at approximately 1145hrs, and will take place on the sea front. The parade will involve up to 150 members of the Regt, who will be led through the town by the Band of the Royal Corps of Signals. Immediately after the Parade there will be a Civic Reception, to which approximately 300 have been invited. Most of that number will be the men and women of the Regt who are participating in the Parade – just as important are those who, over the years, have earned the Liberty of Swanage – namely all those who have contributed to Exercise Topham Hatt over the past 21 years. The event will celebrate 21 years of the Army assisting in the Swanage Railway project under the auspices of Exercise Topham Hatt. All members of the Group who are attending the Reunion are warmly invited to join the marching troops and civic dignitaries at the reception; their personal guests are also welcome. In order that the event can be planned, please contact Frank as below. The outline plan (as at 21 Feb 05) is as follows: Thu 07 Jul 05 1900 B-B-Que Ancaster Road Fri 08 Jul 2030 Semi Formal Evening Meal – Purbeck Hotel Sat 09 Jul 1130 Liberty Parade – Shore Road Sun 10 Jul Chill Day 60th Anniversary of Victory in Europe/Victory in Japan – Arrangements by the Royal British Legion - Swanage The Group’s Reunion, and the Liberty Parade also fall on the same weekend as the events to mark the 60th Anniversary of VE/VJ which saw the end of WW2. These are being coordinated, by the Royal British Legion, under the banner EX HERO’S RETURN. All of the British Legion’s VE/VJ events in the county of Dorset are being focused in Swanage, on this weekend, and so it proves to be a really exciting few days.
