Armed Forces Day 2017

Swanage Railway is supporting Swanage Army Link in Swanage Armed Forces Day 2017.

Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community:

Swanage Railway is offering free travel for armed forces personnel and veterans for the day. Please show appropriate forces or veterans ID at the railway booking office.

The Days Events

11:15 War Memorial Swanage Sea Front

Members of the public are invited to join the Mayor of Swanage and many military guests at the War Memorial by 1115hrs.  The Ringwood Pipe Band will be present, and following welcoming speeches, a pair of engraved Royal Signals cap badges will be unveiled at the newly installed Memorial Wall.  This will formally celebrate over three decades of association between the Royal Signals and Swanage.

12:45 Locomotive Naming Swanage Station (Visitors to view from Viewing Area on Gilbert Road)

A class 66 GB Railfreight locomotive will be named ‘The Royal Corps of Signals’ at 1245hrs by Major General John Crackett ROYAL SIGNALS and Mr John Smith the Managing Director of GB Railfreight

A Viewing Area is opposite the platform for veterans and on Gilbert Road for members of the general public.

14:00 Swanage to Norden Service and Chinook Overflight

The 1400hrs passenger train to Norden will be hauled by the newly named Class 66 Royal Signals.

NB The Class 66 will be at the rear of the train formation (Swanage End). It will then work the 14:40 Norden to Swanage at the gead of the train.

The train will convey a party of guests and 50 soldiers from 3 (Harrogate) Squadron. 

The service will be escorted (overflown) between Harmans Cross and Corfe Castle by an RAF Chinook helicopter.
