NEWSFLASH 1st June 2007: Additional Locomotives confirmed

The Swanage Railway is pleased to confirm four visiting locomotives for its event marking the 40th Anniversary of the end of Southern Steam (Saturday 7th to Monday 9th July 2007).

30075, Project 62's 'USA lookalike', will be visiting for the weekend and will be joined by 73129, the Caprotti valve gear Standard Five from the Midland Railway Centre, BR Standard Four 2-6-0 No. 76079 from Riley & Son and Bulleid Battle of Britain Class No. 34081 '92 Squadron' from the North Norfolk Railway.

It is also hoped that a locomotive will be able to use the main-line connection, as the first steam locomotive to travel the whole branch since BR days.

From the 'home' fleet it is hoped that 80078 and 80104 will be in use and that M7 Class locomotive 30053 will be available for the weekend.

On Friday and Saturday evenings the Railways evening service will be operated using some of the visiting locomotives. Bar facilities will be available on all evening trains.

On the Saturday and Sunday it is planned that the Railway's peak 40-minute timetable will be supplemented by additional trains throughout the day providing a similar timetable to that recently operated for the Beer Festival.

On Monday 9th July – the actual Anniversary – the Railway will operate a 40-minute frequency service throughout the day. It is planned to use 30053, 34081, 73129 and 76079 on this day. This page will show full details of the event as soon as these are produced.
